My big gift was an external DVDRW +- dual layer burner with lightscribe. Haven't tested out the lightscribe part, but was able to burn a season of Curb Your Enthusiasum to a DVD, had some room left over, so burned The Stewie Movie thing not sure of the title, it's a The Family Guy direct to DVD thing. So far everything has played great on my Philips DVD player. Only problem I had was that I needed to download newer software to make the burner work, pretty sure the drive shipped with software they knew wouldn't work. Another problem is that I didn't use iDvd (don't have) or some other program so I could've made a menu. Drag and drop is nice, but it won't make a menu for a regular DVD player. My super cool/cheap hybrid media player by Philips has around 10 characters limited display for filenames. Have a feeling the DVD player my niece got for Xmas might be able to play Divx or Xvids.
