Here I go again

Forgot I shouldn't d/l stuff and watch a movie on the Roku Netflix player at the same time. For this particular movie it doesn't matter, Bullitt from the 70's so if it's a bit blurry makes it seem more real to the 70's era.

Want to get pissed off?

Watch the documentary Jesus Camp, available on Netflix for instant viewing. Seems like child abuse to me. I guess a christian might have a different opinion of the film, but as a godless heathen it makes me mad to see kids being brainwashed.

Take some Ginkgo Biloba old man

What a dummy, I'm already on the unlimited local plan, here I was all worried about that 25 minute call costing me x.xx at 1.3 or 1.4 cents a minute, no worries it's covered. I remember now, I switched the type of account when I bought the new number. When I first signed up I was on a pay per minute plan, but didn't like the phone number, so I bought a new one and put it on the unlimited local plan. The number is from Vitelity Communications, a fairly cheap DID provider, with a very informative website compared to other DID providers I've used in the past.

my VOIP kinda works

Plugged my Trixbox (VOIP machine) back into the net today after I stole (with permission) an old hub from work to give me more ports to plug stuff into. The four ports on my Linksys router just aren't enough, I need at least six inputs. Sounds like a two girl show... Anyway, I can get voicemail on my VOIP number again, just can't make or receive calls yet. After I plugged it back in I discovered an old voicemail back in May from a credit card company that is kinda important. Now if I can just remember the admin password for Trixbox...

update: Everything works, don't ask me why, I didn't do anything except forward a range of ports. Still haven't been into the admin portion of Trixbox.

Top Gear on BBC America

Top Gear on BBC America, just how old are those episodes they claim are new? Recently watched one where the celebrity driver was Justin Hawkins, and they were promoting a song and video he had recently put out .... in 2005. Just because it's new to american audiences doesn't mean it's new. Thank goodness for Ted and Transmission, that way I can see actual new episodes of Top Gear shortly after they have aired and not wait 3 years for them to show on BBC America as "new".

New Boxee

Nice, a new alpha version of Boxee is out. I use it primarily to watch DVDs on my MacBook so I don't have to see the dead pixel I get when I use Front Row. Still waiting for the torrent element to be made clear.

Enough with the conventions already

I've decided who I'm voting for already. Don't need my TV full of your speechs, democrats this week and republicans next week. I'm voting for the secret muslim who isn't a natural born citizen and not qualified to run for president because he might not have been born in America. Not thrilled that he chose Biden as a running mate, that might sway my vote towards Bob Barr, just kidding.

Had to pay to keep my VOIP number

Guess I better figure out how to hook everything up. Out of ports on Linksys router, there is a 12 port hub I can "borrow" from work. I'll take it home later today and see what I can do with it, then I'll buy it from the company if it works for my purposes (for .01). Don't think it's a switch, just a hub. Anyway, had a 2 buck deficit on my VOIP number, so they shut it down, so I prepaid another 40 bucks, and now feel an urgency to get it all working again, even if I can't do it on my iPhone yet.

"Meet Bill" is up for grabs on the Netflix instant download

A movie, Meet Bill, I watched months ago by downloading via Rapidshare is now available for instant viewing on Netflix. I just watched it again on my Roku Netflix player, so now I can say I didn't steal it, I've paid to watch it.

Good / Bad news

My Mom probably has glaucoma, she has to take eye drops from now on to keep her internal eye pressure down. That's the bad news.

Good news is that I could probably get medical marijuana because now I have a family history of glaucoma. Not going to seek it yet, but good to know if I ever want it. Could get it for anxiety or depression too if I wanted to.

Just watched Super High Me. A funny take off on the movie Super Size Me. Dude goes thirty days straight staying high, takes tests to compare to tests he took during a thirty day period where he didn't get high. Turns out for him pretty much the same results. Your results may vary. Keep in mind dude in question is a professional comedian, so it's not like he was a surgeon performing an operation while high.

I don't make enough money

I usually don't have to pay attention to my personal finances, do it all online through my credit union. Last couple of months I've been short on a payment or two because a deposit wasn't made in time to cover it. One of the last things the dude that killed himself said to me was that I should be paid more. Might finally be the time to get a new job, or demand a raise. Don't know if they'd go for a raise when they bring in outside consultants, but I show my knowledge while discussing what we're after with the consultant that may or may not be needed, and I'm the guy the consultant will work with to get it all up and running, whatever it is he comes up with. Just typing and clearing my mind, do not read, it's for me only, guess I shouldn't post it, but I will.

Stressed out!

That fucker at work better pay me my 60 bucks soon, cause I'm really starting to get pissed off about it. Asshole is borrowing money from work... better stop here, but I won't. Borrow 60 bucks from work and make the final payment on your Wii you shouldn't have agreed to buy in the first place in November! Not trying to suggest that's the reason I've been short, but c'mon, I've given that guy way too much time to pay for it. I'm sure your 17 year old daughter has a MySpace or Facebook page, I'll find it and tell her that you are a deadbeat who doesn't pay his debts. She probably uses the computer my Dad GAVE you to update her MySpace or Facebook page.

Neat, seems I can only have one item on the net at a time

For some reason, all of a sudden I can only have one thing at a time connected to the internet. I can have my laptop online, not my iPhone, but then I can, now... Before I couldn't, does the Netflix box work now? Yes it does, so odd earlier today. I don't know, think somebody might be fucking with my internet. Several system wide reboots and all seems well so far. Why does Simplify Media seem to be uploading a ton all the time? Quit that thing until I get a dock I can use at work, even then it'll be too noisy to listen to, seems rude to wear headphones at work but that might be my only recourse. Think Simplify Media is a spy...

former gymnasts make horrible strippers

Watching the commie lympics reminds of a horrible stripper experience. The ex gymnast may be able to work the pole like no other in a strip club, but don't buy a private dance from her. Lap dance from a gymnast is like you are the apparatus, her strong legs will squeeze you and rub aggressively like they are looking for a score from a judge, a disappointing experience as a patron.

Netflix upgrade in effect

Netflix has upgraded my account to 2 discs out at a time due to some lawsuit settlement. Better pay attention and make sure it automatically downgrades to 1 disc out in 30 days. It better, Netflix has been kinda off their game lately, stuff has to come from across the country, it's late to show up. The Roku Netflix Player still works as it should.

Aw, Pandora might go away

Read on Slashdot that Pandora might just fold up shop due to the outrageous fees charged by the RIAA types. But I just took a survey from Pandora, I gave the best answers I honestly could, might've gave some better than best because I want Pandora to continue. For example, said I use it on a handheld device, I don't but know I can, so said yes. Hopefully my survey response will help Pandora to decide to stick around and challenge the BS fees for online broadcasting streaming of copyrighted music.

Scary moment for me

Had a power outage tonight due to high winds. My linkstation didn't show up after a reboot. Thought sure it was fried, but it came back after a hard power cycle. Phew, I'm sure some would be happy if I lost all my music, but I wouldn't. Now Simplify Music has to rescan again, good thing it was free.

Damn! some huge thunder just now. If I was smart I'd unplug all electronics, but not gonna 'cuz I'm dumb, still scanning.

Was driving home through downtown and judging by the amount of emergency vehicles along the river on Washington Street somebody either jumped in or fell into the Spokane River. It's been so hot I don't blame them, but c'mon, you'll most likely drown. Kinda need to apologize to my neph, but not really because he knew I was baiting him, and it didn't work. 5 years time (Sun Sun Sun)

Find it sort of funny that the Sun Sun Sun song is on a Saturn car commercial. If you listen to the whole song there's a reference to being drunk and being fun. Not exactly what a car company should be complacently promoting. Great song, bought it. Now I'll go drive drunk in my Saturn car. Maybe if I was in a Saturn car instead of a Mazda truck I wouldn't have been pulled over years ago.

How long does it take?

I've been waiting over 4 hours for this Simplify Media thing to complete scanning my music library. Why does it take so long? I've sent an email to the company inquiring what I can do to make it faster. Is it because it's SMB and not a local drive?

The Simplify app is very cool, I can stream my music on my home network to my iPhone via 3G or EDGE or WiFi, just need it to finish scanning my library. No 3G for me, but if I had a new iPhone 3G would work.

I can see my nephew's iTunes library on my iPhone, not mine yet because it's still scanning. No offense to my Neph, but I don't like heavy metal as much as your library suggests you do.

update: It works! I can see my music, stream over EDGE. Think the Simplify Media servers were a bit overwhelmed by the response and couldn't handle all the new signups. I rescanned my library and it only took a few hours to find over 6000 tracks, and it was accessible while it continued to scan, so pretty sure Simplify was slammed yesterday when I first tried it.

Damn analog loop hole strikes again

Some nice guy has digitized all his old 78 records. Is that illegal? Maybe, depending on how old the recording is. Sad thing is that this guy's efforts are probably the only effort made to archive these artifacts. Rum and Coke old school, with kinda imperialist / sex trade lyrics by The Andrews Sisters. Here's a great one My Son Calls Another Man Daddy by Hank Williams.

Screw the japanese, I use American software

Found PithHelmet when looking for an ad-blocker for Safari. My neph links to some Japanese thing that does the same kind-of duty, but I can read and understand the PithHelmet site. I just want to stop pop-under ads, not as concerned with flash and crap on MySpace because I'm too old for MySpace. PithHelmet is shareware, kinda nagware, but you can lie by checking you paid and the nag goes away.

Spider or bug bit me finger

Last night a spider or some other bug bit my finger while I slept. It was totally numb when I woke up, at first thought I had experienced a stroke or something, (finally, been waiting for so long, who doesn't want a stroke once in a while). A bit after that I noticed a bump on said finger and figured out I had been attacked by a poisonous creature. Finger was number most of the day and swelling went down over time, so now I'm left with a little red mark to remind me to not sleep.

update: I think there might be some necrosis at the site of the bite, if it grows I'm in trouble. At least it's not my middle finger, I'd hate to lose that.

Glad that's over, is it your fault Boxee?

Our national nightmare is over. I have wifi internet on my laptop again. After much handwringing and clearing of caches, deleting software, multiple reboots, accidentally unplugged modems... the solution was to give the laptop a different IP address. It must be some nasty DNS thing in the laptop's nether regions that wouldn't let me see the internet with the .101 addy that it always had before. Give it a .103 and all is well. Even reinstalled Boxee and it's working just fine. Still want to know what the sharing is and how that works. Why is there a bitorrent thing as part of the program? What a day. I should get paid for this, I'll send myself a bill.

Boxee alpha

Boxee is an OSX (and lesser OS's) media player based on the XBMC (x-box media center). It's currently in the alpha stage, but I want it now! I signed up for the alpha and will probably have to wait a week for an official invite to come my way. Cool thing about this XBMC variant is that it includes the ability to share your stuff right inside the media player. Very nice feature for generous / lazy folk like me who would like to share but find things like VPN too tedious to deal with. Come on boxee invitation, show up in my inbox, now.

update: Got invited. It uses the apple remote, pretty cool, not sure how the sharing works yet. I guess I can give out invites if I want. If you want one and use OSX or Linux post your email in the comments and I'll hook you up.

Screener of Indiana Jones

Awesome, there's a screener version of the latest Indy movie available. Not so awesome is that it's not widescreen. Same thing with Kung Fu Panda recently. WTF? Are these VHS screeners or something? The audio is pretty bad on the Indy movie too. I recommend wait for something better before you do your own research.

update: Turns out it's not from a screener, it's from a Tele Sync, whatever that is. Helps explain why the audio is so bad.

World blowing me up update

Filled my gas tank today and it splashed gasoline on me when I pulled the nozzle out. Must've overfilled it. Didn't think that was possible, but splash, it happened. If I was a smoker I probably would've caught on fire while driving home after being doused in gasoline. Reminded me of the "Gas Fight" scene in Zoolander, they couldn't smell what they were spraying on each other? Stupid male models.

Ingrown hair, zit whatever

I've got something, think it's an ingrown hair on my face. I'm just waiting for the foot long hair to burst out of the sore. But no, it'll burst and no long hair, so it'll just superficially heal, and will get sore again. Better dig into it or go see a doc. Which would I rather? Going digging, nope, could cause more harm than good. Damn, I'm going to a doctor. Who knows what evil will be revealed. Diabetic yet? Liver failure much? Mini heart attacks? I've got to have brand new underwear on if I see a doctor.

I'll use my health insurance for the first time. And won't stop because I'll find out how sick I am.

"My Vote Doesn't Count"

Dummy at work told me that today. He voted, but didn't vote for president, just local elections. All because of the electoral college system we have, his lame state of Idaho only has 4. He claims that he hates the electoral college system and would rather that the popular vote would prevail. Hey dummy, you didn't vote for president, so yours didn't count period. Obama won the popular vote as well.

Transformers Blu-Ray

The movie still sucks, but it looks a lot better in Blu-Ray. I will say that you can sort of tell the bad guys from the good guys in the higher def version. Viewing the DVD version I couldn't really follow the action, or tell which robot was which. To be honest I was catching up on email and stuff during the heavy CGI scenes. Just wanted to see what's her name in a belly shirt and short skirt in high def.

I like hating coworkers

I've seen that people take credit for my work. Not difficult work, took me 15 minutes or less to do it, squeezed it out before I left on Friday. Emailed the result of my work to the coworker that requested it. Subsequently read an email where that coworker claimed that they created it, they may have edited it, but don't take full credit. Just gives me more reason to hate on folk. This particular coworker couldn't have created it ever. Best to move on if able. Will be with some folk this weekend that might have some options.

Kristen Wiig of SNL had a nose job

Ok, might do some work on the broke dick iPhone

I just bought a new glass screen and tools to replace it off eBay. Shit is coming from Hong Kong. Why do they call it 2G? That 2G stuff confuses me. Anyway, even if it's the wrong size it was only around 14 bucks. Isn't the 3G iPhone the second generation? They claim it fits a 4 gig iPhone, so that would be a first generation iPhone.

iPhone glass replacement. Worth it?

A local company can replace the busted glass screen on my iPhone for "... $65 (parts), $10.88 Shipping, and $35 labor...", so hmm, math, let's see 110.88. Cheaper than sending it back to Apple. Too bad I don't have some other phone lying around I could put the sim card into during the repair time. They say 5-10 days turnaround. Would they need to have my iPhone the whole time? Need to find out what it would cost to get out of my ATT contract. Then go T-Mobile and G1, depending on what it costs to dump ATT. Although, I'm liking an App on the iPhone called GasHog that helps you track how many miles per gallon you get, and what the fuel costs per mile.

That G1 looks goofy, has no standard headphone jack, doesn't play video, not truly open thanks to T-Mobile, has a 2 year contract like ATT.

Fuck it, I'm stuck. Maybe I'll get the 3G iPhone instead and sell the busted one to help offset the cost. I'll have to make sure to take blurry pictures of it.

Got my used / refurbished Apple TV

It was very easy to setup the first 3 times. Why 3 times? Well, I'm trying to use Boxee on it and that requires some work, not really, but I tried it over again when samba wasn't working. Still need some work to get samba shares to load. All the iTunes stuff works great, I can stream any media in my iTunes library fine, movies I've bought, podcasts, music I've bought. What I really want is samba shares to work. That will involve some ssh and ftp work. NitoTV may be the answer. Not a novice to ssh or ftp so I'm not scared about it, just too late in the day to tackle it tonight.

BTW: Never knew I could boot from a USB card reader.

BTW 2: The 2.2 Apple TV update included 1080p.
