My chest hurts

Just thinking about what Pops went through makes my chest hurt. He had triple bypass heart surgery today. He's still not fully awake and aware and might not be for a while. Wake up, have a meal, back to sleep will be his schedule for the next couple of days. I can't go see him because of my cold, so I'm relying on reports from my Mom. I hope she isn't lying to me! Nah, she wouldn't do that.

I can't even imagine what the recovery will be like. He'll have to hold a pillow to his chest when he coughs to prevent ripping out stitches, he can't pick up or reach for things with only one hand, it takes three months for the sternum to fully heal. I wonder if he'll wear a truss or a girdle type thing during the healing process?

I know what I can look forward to if I don't change my diet and exercise habits, maybe, I never smoked habitually, I've had maybe 5 packs in my entire life.

fring VOIP for iPhone

There is finally a VOIP client (besides that French thing) for the iPhone, fring. Your iPhone has to be jailbroken to install the program. This is an early release so expect some bugs, even the test call cut out quite a bit during the playback. Fring can do Google Talk, Skype, MSN Messenger, AIM, ICQ, Yahoo and what I'm most interested in SIP. Using Fring and SIP I should be able to use my iPhone with my Trixbox server.

I'm sick so probably won't be playing with it for a while.

Got my name on the radio

Tee-hee, I got a radio DJ to say my name on the air. Local sports radio show, just moved to a new station and the host gave out their email address. Dude was saying I've got a message from a Moto Q, Treo, etc. so I sent a message asking if he had one from an iPhone yet. I was the first iPhone email he got and he said my name on the radio, he said my full name...not so pleased about that. Anyway the host went on to say how cool the iPhone was and how he wished he had one and he's seen one because Tom Hudson (local TV sports guy, radio voice of Gonzaga) has one and they are so cool. That was a fun moment.

Now I've got to hope my Pops doesn't die next week during some invasive heart tests, and possibly crack open the chest heart surgery soon after the tests. Trying real hard not to get all worried and anxious about this thing that I can't control. Crying already, and he hasn't had anything done yet! Fucker better not die.

Need to service my VW

It's time for my rabbit to get it's first check-up. I thought I could schedule it online, but the goddamn lithia spokane websites are down right now. Lithia is the VW dealer here where I live. Lithia bought Camp Chevrolet, Camp Toyota, Camp VW, etc. The Camps lived across the street when I was a kid. I remember a time when a Camp daughter and her little sister were in my driveway... public kid nudity, not by me or requested by me, I was only a witness.

Dead Mazda not my problem anymore

Sold my busted engine Mazda today, signed over the title for a whopping 300 bucks cash. Why does my boss walk around with a fanny pack full of cash? The car deal is still hinky, but I'm out of it now. I just hope I don't get screwed later on. Not sure who I sold it to really, was it the car dealer or my boss? They can figure it out.

Got the title to the Mazda

I was able to find the title to my busted Mazda. Didn't really find it, found out who had it. My credit union never released their interest after I paid the car off, at least 5 years ago. I think that's illegal but I'll let it slide, some seriously cute ladies work at that credit union. Might try to use the knowledge that they were breaking the law to my advantage...

Anyway, now I can sell it to my boss and he will use it in some scheme with his car dealer buddy as a trade-in. I don't know the details, hinky stuff I don't want to know about.

iPhone case showed up

I got my Marware iPhone case today. Why did I wait so long to get a case for it? The phone's easier to hold, plus it kinda keeps my sweaty face off the touch screen while I'm on the phone. Less smudges to wipe off.

After I put the case on I decided to change the root password on the iPhone, why should mine be "alpine" like everybody else? Might've been a bad idea. Soon after I did that I uninstalled Majhong because the game "board" is bigger than the screen, no way am I going to deal with that. After the uninstall the iPhone sort of got caught in a loop where it would redraw the main screen, then tell me the voicemail password was incorrect, over and over, even after a power cycle it did the same thing. Only thing I could do was restore my custom firmware, and now all is good again.

Figured out Pwnage

I think I finally figured out how to use Pwnage. Only took 4 tries of creating custom restores and blanking out my iPhone to factory default. My problem was selecting to unlock it, I don't need mine unlocked, I'm still on my ATT contract.

I lost my Notes where I was keeping track of who'd paid me what, pretty sure I remember where everybody was, no big deal. Lost my contacts, most of them are in my Address Book on the Mac, problem is I can't sync. Might have a fix for that once I ssh into the iPhone and change the ownership on a file.

Now I've got my ATT service, Installer App, and YouTube works. Pwnage is the best iPhone hacking tool out there.

Restored my iPhone

My iPhone wouldn't sync after the new iTunes update so I restored it to 1.1.4. Now I gotta figure out how to use the new Pwnage Tool. I've got the 1.1.4 stuff somewhere on my Mac, I've got to. Oh crap, lost the ebooks I had on it. That's ok, wasn't really digging the one I was reading, Cory Doctorow's thing with a washing machine as a mother to a bunch of freaky kids, and a mountain is their father. The ebook is free to download so I didn't lose any money.

The economy scares me

I'm kinda worried about how bad things are with the US economy. Gas prices almost 4 bucks a gallon, the going nowhere money pit in Iraq, people don't pay me as much as they said they would or when they said they would. With that in mind I've taken some steps to save some dough.

Cancelled HBO and Sports Pack on DirecTV

Changed Netflix account to 1 disc out at a time

That's pretty much it so far, if I had a diesel car I'd try to make biofuel, mostly for fun, not to save money.

Fixed my iPhone warranty

For some reason Apple thought my refurbed iPhone's warranty was over this September or something like that, definitely not the full year from my purchase date in March 2008. This seems to be a common issue with the refurbed iPhones ATT just dumped onto the market. I'm thinking ATT didn't tell Apple about these new sales. Luckily enough it's an easy fix, just provide Apple with a proof of purchase and they will reset the date on the warranty. Some people have had to argue with ATT and or Apple phone support to get it done, those dummies just needed to go to Apple's self service warranty site and follow the instructions. All I had to do was print out and fax Apple my order info from ATT and presto change-o, a day later I have a full year warranty like I should've had already.

iPhone case

Dude that "bought" my 4GB iPhone bought a rubber case for it. He paid over 30 bucks for it at Best Buy (most of it on a gift card). I don't know why he needs it, I had it for almost a year and there are only one or two scratches on the case. Maybe he drops things more than I do. After thinking about it I decided it's a good idea to put a case on it, not to prevent scratches, but to help prevent theft. I've just ordered a couple of black Marware Sport Grip cases from Amazon, or some Amazon reseller, for a bit under 25 bucks before taxes and free shipping. It's well reviewed and cheap. Sucks that I'll have to wait for them, but a much better deal than whatever Best Buy is selling.

Wii dude paid me 50 today

iPhone dude has yet to pay anything, in his defense he was busy with a customer when I left work, I didn't ask during the day when we checked out the status of the warranty and he told me how much the case cost. It's hilarious because the Go Phone plan he has on the sim card in "his" iPhone it cost 9 bucks to download one email to "his" iPhone. Are you serious ATT, 9 bucks? He has no choice because he's on a prepaid plan, I guess he can bitch about it if he wants to. He needs a data plan on that sim card, or MEdia, or whatever they call it.

update: iPhone dude gave me 100 bucks today

So much dog hair

Do pugs ever stop shedding? Sheesh, hair everywhere. Staying at my folks place for who knows how long and they've got a couple of pugs. I would think that in the cold weather they'd keep as much hair as possible. Maybe when it gets colder.

"My Vote Doesn't Count"

Dummy at work told me that today. He voted, but didn't vote for president, just local elections. All because of the electoral college system we have, his lame state of Idaho only has 4. He claims that he hates the electoral college system and would rather that the popular vote would prevail. Hey dummy, you didn't vote for president, so yours didn't count period. Obama won the popular vote as well.

Transformers Blu-Ray

The movie still sucks, but it looks a lot better in Blu-Ray. I will say that you can sort of tell the bad guys from the good guys in the higher def version. Viewing the DVD version I couldn't really follow the action, or tell which robot was which. To be honest I was catching up on email and stuff during the heavy CGI scenes. Just wanted to see what's her name in a belly shirt and short skirt in high def.

I like hating coworkers

I've seen that people take credit for my work. Not difficult work, took me 15 minutes or less to do it, squeezed it out before I left on Friday. Emailed the result of my work to the coworker that requested it. Subsequently read an email where that coworker claimed that they created it, they may have edited it, but don't take full credit. Just gives me more reason to hate on folk. This particular coworker couldn't have created it ever. Best to move on if able. Will be with some folk this weekend that might have some options.

Kristen Wiig of SNL had a nose job

It's obvious. Why even debate it? If you look at Kristen Wiig's nose in "Walk Hard" and how it looks on the most recent episodes of SNL, it's clear that she had a nose job. I personally think she looks better.

AHHH, Sick of these political ads

WTF does "opposed defending marriage" mean? Does that mean he or she thinks homos should be able to get married? Fucking christians need to learn that America isn't a theocracy yet. Are there any non-religious congresspersons or senators?

Ok, might do some work on the broke dick iPhone

I just bought a new glass screen and tools to replace it off eBay. Shit is coming from Hong Kong. Why do they call it 2G? That 2G stuff confuses me. Anyway, even if it's the wrong size it was only around 14 bucks. Isn't the 3G iPhone the second generation? They claim it fits a 4 gig iPhone, so that would be a first generation iPhone.

iPhone glass replacement. Worth it?

A local company can replace the busted glass screen on my iPhone for "... $65 (parts), $10.88 Shipping, and $35 labor...", so hmm, math, let's see 110.88. Cheaper than sending it back to Apple. Too bad I don't have some other phone lying around I could put the sim card into during the repair time. They say 5-10 days turnaround. Would they need to have my iPhone the whole time? Need to find out what it would cost to get out of my ATT contract. Then go T-Mobile and G1, depending on what it costs to dump ATT. Although, I'm liking an App on the iPhone called GasHog that helps you track how many miles per gallon you get, and what the fuel costs per mile.

That G1 looks goofy, has no standard headphone jack, doesn't play video, not truly open thanks to T-Mobile, has a 2 year contract like ATT.

Fuck it, I'm stuck. Maybe I'll get the 3G iPhone instead and sell the busted one to help offset the cost. I'll have to make sure to take blurry pictures of it.

Got my used / refurbished Apple TV

It was very easy to setup the first 3 times. Why 3 times? Well, I'm trying to use Boxee on it and that requires some work, not really, but I tried it over again when samba wasn't working. Still need some work to get samba shares to load. All the iTunes stuff works great, I can stream any media in my iTunes library fine, movies I've bought, podcasts, music I've bought. What I really want is samba shares to work. That will involve some ssh and ftp work. NitoTV may be the answer. Not a novice to ssh or ftp so I'm not scared about it, just too late in the day to tackle it tonight.

BTW: Never knew I could boot from a USB card reader.

BTW 2: The 2.2 Apple TV update included 1080p.
