Got rid of my Mazda, kinda
I've sort of sold my dead Mazda to the owner of the company I work for. He had it hauled away to his house today. I need to get the title for it before we can call it a sale, don't think I ever got the title after I paid it off.
Forgot how much loose change I had in it, there must be at least 20 bucks worth that I took out of it before we pushed it onto a car trailer. I'll be visiting a Coinstar soon, probably put it on an iTunes card.
The owner dude said he might convert my Mazda to an electric car, or put a working engine in it, it'll be a project car for him and his buddies. He's made an electric car before out of a Ford Festiva or something like that. I don't give a shit, glad to be rid of it. Now I need to get the title for it so he can pay me.

Free to fix? Sure hope so.

I blame bad case design. There's a crack, or hole in my laptop case. I wonder if this would be covered by the warranty (pretty sure my warranty ran out)? No matter what Apple should fix it, I didn't abuse it or drop it hardly ever. Screw it, Apple should give me a brand new MacBook because of their design flaw, MacBook Pro in aluminum so I won't have this plastic case failure again. Photo taken with iPhone.

8GB iPhone arrived, what to do with the 4GB?
My refurbed 8GB iPhone showed up via DHL yesterday. Very easy to switch my service to the "new" phone, just plop it on the dock and tell iTunes that it's a replacement phone, wait a few minutes and ATT transferred my phone number to the new device.
Now to sell the 4GB one as an unlocked phone. Unlocked means you can use it on any GSM provider, not just ATT, and install 3rd party programs. I tried Ziphone first, it just didn't seem to work right, Google Maps weren't working, the Installer App couldn't install anything, YouTube couldn't connect. After some reading found that the "developer" of Ziphone isn't very well liked in the iPhone/Touch hacking community.
Start again.
Restored the 4GB to factory firmware in iTunes. The next program tried was iPlus 2.0b. Phone seems to work better, I can install programs through Installer, Google Maps work, still no worky for YouTube, sound didn't work but kicked in somehow after hitting various ringtones several times. Can't actually say that the phone part works as I don't have another sim card to plug in, right now it's basically a slightly larger in size, much smaller in capacity, iPod Touch with a built in microphone.
Why would anybody pay 300 plus bucks for an unlocked 4GB iPhone? Just use one of several programs, most work on Windows and the Mac. Oh jeez, looks like they aren't paying that much anymore. Mine is in really good shape, just one or two minor scratches on the case, the screen is perfect. We'll see what happens, might be able to sell it at work to a different dead beat than the one who bought my Wii.
Update: Selling it to the dude at work. Haven't decided what price, at least 300, maybe more... I'll have to let him pay over time 'cause he has no credit, that's the reason he'll buy my used iPhone, it's the only way he'll get one. We're tentatively agreed on two equal payments over the next couple of pay days. I could even hook up a loan from the company... that would be unethical. Wonder which guy will pay me off first, if at all?

Ran iPlus 2.0b on the 8GB iPhone
It was so easy to do on the 4GB iPhone I decided to do it on the "new" 8GB one. If you use the command line switch -j it doesn't unlock the phone, it only allows the ability to install 3rd party applications on your phone. Strange, it sez it can't connect to YouTube, but I can watch YouTube videos that were in memory before I did the jailbreak. I rarely use YouTube on the iPhone so not a big deal to me if it doesn't work on an unlocked/jailbroke phone. Nice, I have so much space now on the new phone for apps. iSolitare, sweet!

30 Days of Night...
Strange, all the native Alaskans look like they are native New Zelanders. The vampires will be killing 'em all anyway. The sound gets all choppy in this RapidShare version...
Sweet, just added a few components to my Quicktime folder and now I can play d/l'd movies via Frontrow. Now I don't need VLC as much.
Playing through Frontrow the audio isn't choppy... the VLC I had was a few versions old. Happy I can use my Apple remote in Frontrow, wee.

Durn it, smart guy not so smart
I had GarageBand 08 totally up to date from a respected source on an evaluation basis. At the same time I was obtaining /bittorrent//>an evaluation version of iLife 08. After installing the evaluation version of iLife 08 my perfectly fine GarageBand reverted to a version that doesn't allow export to an iPhone ringtone. Now updating the iLife. What a pain in the ass for several people just to get custom ringtones on the iPhone sort of legally.

Should I get a refurb 8 GB iPhone?
So tempting... only 249 bucks for a phone with twice the storage capacity of my current phone. If I got it I'd have to extend my current contract. Why is it 100 bucks more expensive from the Apple Store? Are they blowing these out before they release a 3G version? Better think about this, thankfully I'm locked out of my ATT account for an hour due to incorrect password attempts. I would be so pissed if they release a 3G iPhone a month after I buy this 8 GB refurbished one.
update: I ordered it, free shipping, c'mon Apple, announce the 3G version tomorrow

The euro is strong, dollar is weak
Was paying for something/rapidshare//> online, the site takes the euro only. They do accept paypal and I could see the exchange rate at the time of my transaction, 1 US dollar was worth .61 of a euro. It's probably worse now.

Time to learn Chinese and maybe other lingos
The US economy is so messed up now it might be time to become bi-lingual. To help us all do it on the cheap some schools are putting their foreign language courses online for free. Some site has ranked them here. Thinking Chinese would be the best to learn job-wise, Japanese for the import games and anime.

Damn you UPS!
What a bad day. First the outside network guy turned on VPN last night but didn't test it out enough before he left, the entire system was fucked up until I got him on the phone and he walked me through undoing what he had done. Then I couldn't get my Bully game today because UPS put GameStop's boxes on the wrong truck. They didn't get the MLB game in today either. GameStop wouldn't take my copy of GTA San Andreas in on trade because it's version one and they only accept version two. Plus I had to work late making sure the server would be working properly in the morning, hopefully the poor performance today was due to a bad patch cable.

Ferris won again
So exciting, the high school I went to won the state basketball championship again, back to back state championships. Now the girls team of the rival of Ferris (Lewis & Clark) are playing to win their back to back state championship. I don't really care, only went to a couple of basketball games when I was in school, but now it's cool because I went there and they are the champs, so I'm a champ by proxy, sort of.
