Sheesh, reboot the router asshole!

Damn, why didn't I think of that two days ago? Anyway, my laptop decided to forget how to connect to my router. I've been busy with work and havn't had time to mess with it. I've turned the wireless off, then on, checked logs for error messages, nothing. Only hint is that there was an error while trying to connect to my network, no details, just retry, or OK. Out of desperation I cycled the power on the router, everything is fine now. Thank FSM I don't have to have a network cable connected to my laptop anymore.

Ultimate Hoodie for 30 bucks cheaper!

I just purchased one of these Ultimate Hoodies. For a limited time you can get 30 bucks off if you use the coupon code "TWiT". 10 bucks for UPS is kind of a rip off, but, what can I do? I guess I'm close enough to be a jerk and say I can come over and pick it up myself, but would the gas bill be less than 10 bucks...that involves math, don't do math. Some town in Idaho, isn't that where Gaylen Hansen lives? He's a famous artist. Makes paintings of crickets, and fish.

Fugit BitTorrent, no movies no more

Not going to use BitTorrent to d/l movies. Wasting time to get files that turn out to be bad, or incomplete, or corrupt. I don't feel bad for myself, I know it's wrong to d/l movies, I feel bad for the folk I'm uploading to, I'm sharing the messed up files, not cool.

Don't think any currently in theaters movie I've tried to d/l has ever worked. TV shows, fine, movies, not so much.

BTW, the Corpse Bride I d/l'd was broke, turned out Netflix was mailing it to me at the very same time.

Happy Endings movie

The movie "Happy Endings" wasn't promoted right when it was released. All the talk show spots and clips didn't do it justice. It's a complicated, mixed up funny situation type movie. Step-brother makes a kid with step-sister as soon as they meet, abortion (didn't happen), Lisa Kudrow nipple for a second, good movie.

Random thought tacked on to a post: BitTorrent sucks if somebody (Hollywood, or some other asshole) is seeding messed up parts. What I need is a UseNet account if I'm gonna be serious about being a security analyst of potential copyright infringement. aka: pirate hunter, arrrghh.

Oh, bargains to be found!

Thanks Frontline! Never thought about yard sales as a source of stolen items, don't know why, makes sense, where else can you sell pretty much anything for cash? The things you stole that you couldn't sell at a pawn shop ... sell 'em at a yard sale. Cops should go to yard sales looking for stolen goods. I'm an idiot, I'm sure it's been going on from the first yard sale, just never thought of it. Here's an idea, ask for a copy of the receipt from the original purchase when buying at a yard sale...to be sure you aren't buying a stolen good.

Hurry up and wait, damn wireless

Have to move all my torrents off my laptop, running out of diskspace. It's going to take about 3 hours to finish copying almost 16 gig over wifi. Should've been storing them on my Linkstation anyway. Who knew there was so much public domain stuff available via BitTorrent? Can't get enough of Betty Boop and Popeye.

fon.com is a bunch of scam, maybe

I think they are just overloaded with friendly folk who want to share their wifi. Or, it's a fraud, I signed up earlier and got an email stating I'd be contacted soon about my purchase of a sweet router for half price. Never got contacted. Ok, they lost my request, no big deal, I'll sign up again. This time you actually have to sign up, create a user, password, submit email address. Went through the hoops but still can't get to the point where I buy anything.

copy and paste of an email from FON to follow dated 2/7/06:

"Hi, xxxxxxxxxx!

Congratulations! You are among one of the 3,000 first users to benefit from our 25$/. (VAT and delivering costs not included) special offer for a FON Ready router.

In the next few days we will contact you to finalize the purchase. Welcome and thanks for joining the FON Community!

FON Team"

strange that they are saying 1,000 users now, and I've never been contacted to finalize the purchase.

WTF? Why so touchy Muslims?

I haven't seen the cartoon that has caused all the riots, but c'mon, learn to take a freaking joke. So what if Mohammad wipes his butt with the wrong hand? (Just guessing about what could've been offensive) I think blasphemy is protected speech. Christ smelled his own farts and liked it. So what? They were holy farts. Each poot from the holy anus is a little bit of the holy ghost. The dude farted halos of stink.

The IT Crowd, must be watched

Them cheeky brits have done it again. A fantastic comedy about the geeks that work in IT departments. As one of those geeks I find it hilarious. Torrents are available on Pirate Bay or MiniNova. Please to be watching, then laughing while watching. Pirate Bay for the first two episodes in XviD, MiniNova for episode 3 in WMV. Might want to wait for episode 3 to show up in XviD format, the WMV version is crap.

Gosh, almost bricked my router, phew.

Got fed up with the slow speeds I get from Bittorrent and decided to muck around with the settings on my Linksys with DD-WRT firmware router. Not the usual setting you see in the control panel, super sekrit settings you have to use shh, or telnet to alter. A link to some settings I altered. Here's a tip, if you try to overclock a version 2.0 Linksys WRT54G to 216 MHz, it will not work for more than a few seconds at a time, so make sure you can type fast if you want to change it back to 200 MHz. Luckily I didn't have to go back to the factory default settings. Some of the settings I changed I got from the uTorrent faq. Can't really tell if it has helped any or not.

update: Might've worked, getting some pretty good speeds, and my computer isn't as sluggish when I'm using BitTorrent.

Linksys WRT54GL for $25.00?

Hmmm, wonder how this could work. I can buy the same router from fon.com for only $25.00. Or from a place like Buy.com for around $70.00. It's sold out at Buy.com, but Amazon has it.

I wonder if you have to agree to share your WiFi for a certain amount of time ... or does fon.com charge you list price and after you share for a while they give you a rebate ... interesting

Screw you GM branded Mastercard!

Why did you bastards cancel my credit card? Is it because I never used it after the sweet balance transfer deal? Pretty soon you fuckers won't be able to use that "DERAGOTORY PUBLIC RECORD OR COLLECTION FILED" excuse to deny me credit. (went bankrupt almost 10 years ago) Why cancel an account that is not being used? I won't be buying a GM vehicle, good work GM Mastercard! You lost a potential customer forever. GM vehicle owners might not want to park next to my car for a little bit.

Tee hee, long wait no more Netflix!

I read a tip somewhere that if you create a queue that is only comprised of new releases and otherwise long wait movies on netflix, you'll get them sooner than you would if the same movies were in a queue full of not so recently released dvds. My gosh, what a sentence!

I remember now, it was on Digg, something about hacking Netflix, not really a hack, more of a trick. Netflix allows you to maintain multiple users on one account. One user should only have soon to be released DVDs, or DVDs that show up as "long wait" or "very long wait" in your regular queue. Not sure if this trick really works. I am going to get "Wedding Crashers" on Friday, and that was "long wait" when it was in my regular queue.

Mac Rumor, no universal Adobe binaries for a while

When I read this rumor about Adobe not coming out with universal binary versions of Photoshop, and other programs for a while, I put the brakes on my purchase of the as of yet non-shipping MacBook Pro. Wait, I don't use any Adobe Pro type programs. I use Painter made by Corel, wonder when Painter will be a universal binary...

I actually have that book, not reading it though. Bought the book from the soon to be defunct Loompanics Catalog.

So much dog hair

Do pugs ever stop shedding? Sheesh, hair everywhere. Staying at my folks place for who knows how long and they've got a couple of pugs. I would think that in the cold weather they'd keep as much hair as possible. Maybe when it gets colder.

"My Vote Doesn't Count"

Dummy at work told me that today. He voted, but didn't vote for president, just local elections. All because of the electoral college system we have, his lame state of Idaho only has 4. He claims that he hates the electoral college system and would rather that the popular vote would prevail. Hey dummy, you didn't vote for president, so yours didn't count period. Obama won the popular vote as well.

Transformers Blu-Ray

The movie still sucks, but it looks a lot better in Blu-Ray. I will say that you can sort of tell the bad guys from the good guys in the higher def version. Viewing the DVD version I couldn't really follow the action, or tell which robot was which. To be honest I was catching up on email and stuff during the heavy CGI scenes. Just wanted to see what's her name in a belly shirt and short skirt in high def.

I like hating coworkers

I've seen that people take credit for my work. Not difficult work, took me 15 minutes or less to do it, squeezed it out before I left on Friday. Emailed the result of my work to the coworker that requested it. Subsequently read an email where that coworker claimed that they created it, they may have edited it, but don't take full credit. Just gives me more reason to hate on folk. This particular coworker couldn't have created it ever. Best to move on if able. Will be with some folk this weekend that might have some options.

Kristen Wiig of SNL had a nose job

It's obvious. Why even debate it? If you look at Kristen Wiig's nose in "Walk Hard" and how it looks on the most recent episodes of SNL, it's clear that she had a nose job. I personally think she looks better.

Ok, might do some work on the broke dick iPhone

I just bought a new glass screen and tools to replace it off eBay. Shit is coming from Hong Kong. Why do they call it 2G? That 2G stuff confuses me. Anyway, even if it's the wrong size it was only around 14 bucks. Isn't the 3G iPhone the second generation? They claim it fits a 4 gig iPhone, so that would be a first generation iPhone.

iPhone glass replacement. Worth it?

A local company can replace the busted glass screen on my iPhone for "... $65 (parts), $10.88 Shipping, and $35 labor...", so hmm, math, let's see 110.88. Cheaper than sending it back to Apple. Too bad I don't have some other phone lying around I could put the sim card into during the repair time. They say 5-10 days turnaround. Would they need to have my iPhone the whole time? Need to find out what it would cost to get out of my ATT contract. Then go T-Mobile and G1, depending on what it costs to dump ATT. Although, I'm liking an App on the iPhone called GasHog that helps you track how many miles per gallon you get, and what the fuel costs per mile.

That G1 looks goofy, has no standard headphone jack, doesn't play video, not truly open thanks to T-Mobile, has a 2 year contract like ATT.

Fuck it, I'm stuck. Maybe I'll get the 3G iPhone instead and sell the busted one to help offset the cost. I'll have to make sure to take blurry pictures of it.

Got my used / refurbished Apple TV

It was very easy to setup the first 3 times. Why 3 times? Well, I'm trying to use Boxee on it and that requires some work, not really, but I tried it over again when samba wasn't working. Still need some work to get samba shares to load. All the iTunes stuff works great, I can stream any media in my iTunes library fine, movies I've bought, podcasts, music I've bought. What I really want is samba shares to work. That will involve some ssh and ftp work. NitoTV may be the answer. Not a novice to ssh or ftp so I'm not scared about it, just too late in the day to tackle it tonight.

BTW: Never knew I could boot from a USB card reader.

BTW 2: The 2.2 Apple TV update included 1080p.
