I'd buy cds from artists I didn't know about prior if I liked their music. A streaming source is probably in a low bitrate. The real cd or iTunes track will sound much better than what you hear from Pandora. Or (I don't recommend) buy it from a Russian site.

Forgot what I ripped all my CDs at, so I looked it up, 256 kpbs, 44.1 kHz. Not a fan of buying from iTunes because of DRM. I don't trust Russian sites, not gonna give them my credit card info, and I think it's illegal somehow.

Not really listening to "Teen Age Riot", wish I was. Had that album on cassette, gave all of my cassettes away long time ago.

Man I wish I could control Pandora with iTunes and Slimserver. Would much rather listen on my stereo using Airtunes than on my laptop speakers...Why can't I choose AirTunes as default audio output? Ah ha, found Airfoil a program that'll divert any audio to Airtunes, sweet! Sucks that it's not free, but worth the price, awesome!

I don't know how to steal research. Downloaded a copy of "Unbreakable" during my research, burned it as a data file, and it looks like total ass on my dvd player that is supposed to play divx. The movie plays fine via VLC on my laptop. The file is an Xvid, not a divx, maybe that's my problem. I could've used Toast to convert it to something else, but it seemed that it would've taken overnight to finish. If I'm to be a theif researcher I better figure these things out.

Oh, and the lightscribe works, pissed I wasted one of those discs. Live and learn to be a better theif researcher.

Saw a neat thing on boing boing and thought I might want a super dorky cool vanity plate on my car. Turns out they aren't free. I can go here and see if the plate I want is available, but to find out for sure you have to fill out a form and pay a bunch, around 50 bucks, and what you want might not get approved. Not worth it. "CRAPULENT" is too many characters, 7 is the limit. Was thinking about FSM4VER or FSM-4VR or FSM4EVR, but I don't want to spend fifty plus bucks to piss off creationists, plus they wouldn't get it, and if they did they'd vandalize my car. My big gift was an external DVDRW +- dual layer burner with lightscribe. Haven't tested out the lightscribe part, but was able to burn a season of Curb Your Enthusiasum to a DVD, had some room left over, so burned The Stewie Movie thing not sure of the title, it's a The Family Guy direct to DVD thing. So far everything has played great on my Philips DVD player. Only problem I had was that I needed to download newer software to make the burner work, pretty sure the drive shipped with software they knew wouldn't work. Another problem is that I didn't use iDvd (don't have) or some other program so I could've made a menu. Drag and drop is nice, but it won't make a menu for a regular DVD player. My super cool/cheap hybrid media player by Philips has around 10 characters limited display for filenames. Have a feeling the DVD player my niece got for Xmas might be able to play Divx or Xvids. Some sort of Proton...

Just watched "Melinda and Melinda" an overall lame Woody Allen movie. Basically two movies in one, they take the same premise and spin it tragic, or comic. I think there's a reason I never heard about this movie when it was initially released, it is the suck. Plus Woody Allen is creepy since he kinda married his own daughter. He married a woman that his former wife had adopted when she was a child. What a strange sentence. He (Woody Allen) married a woman (Sun Li) that his (Woody Allen) former wife (Mia Farrow) had adopted when she (Sun Li) was a child. Too many pronouns! I can't write, Mia Farrow didn't adopt anybody as a child. She has adopted children as an adult. I'm confused....

Should've put Tiger on my Xmas list, or not, maybe I'll buy an intel based laptop when they are announced in soon. It'll come with the new OS, ohh, but I couldn't put it on my iBook because it's a PowerPC, damn. This might get confusing. Maybe her special isn't so bad. She has an evangelical christian saying that the only way to heaven is to believe in christ. And she challenges him kinda, not very hard. She asks if someone is a Jew, or Muslim, or Buddhist, etc. can they go to heaven? christian answers "no, unless they accept christ". The special is good if it makes evangelical christians look bad. Later on she asks a similar question to a Muslim, and the Muslim sez "No heaven for Jew".

My personal belief is that if you believe there is a heaven and you are going there after you die, you are going to be disappointed, not for long, might not even get to be disappointed 'cause you're dead.

This looks like a good deal for a 1 gig mp3 player. A co-worker is looking to get an Mp3 player for his daughter. He found the Costco deal online, seems like a good choice. He's not concerned with it having expandable memory. I would be, I'd want multiple gigs of storage, or at least the ability to switch out memory cards. I'm lying, I like my 1 gig iPod shuffle. I never use my shuffle, maybe I'll offer to sell it. Nah, can't sell it, didn't keep the neat box it came in. If I had an iPod Mini I'd sell it, those are in demand, partly because they don't get as scratched up as newer iPods.

I was wondering if I could stop paying for TV. I have Directv with Tivo right now. Really ticked that they have dropped Tivo. What am I going to do? I love Tivo. I don't want the Directv PVR, I want my DirecTivo to work, and have all the features other Tivo's have. A possible work around is bittorrent + rss. Problem is that a lot of shows I might like to see don't have folks recording and seeding them. Shows like: "This Old House", "Sex Talk with Sue Johanson", "Harvey Birdman". And many others I don't even know I'd like to see. Maybe I'll get cable TV, and really make my MythTv box. If I get the cable TV my cable internet will be cheaper...

I wanted a cute fix but was dismayed to find that CuteOverload.com isn't working as advertised. Wonder why? Could it be that it's not a "real" site? It's a typepad site. Don't know what I mean by "real" site. I'm sure this stupid site is on a shared server. Why am I ranting? Because I couldn't get a cute fix! I've managed to rig it so it works using tape, had to re-fix it more than once, gotta get the solder iron out next time.

So many features I didn't even know about. I never knew that my router would scan for open networks, but it will. If you go into the router management, status, wireless, then click the survey button, the router will check the area for other wireless networks. I think so anyway, nothing shows up at my house, none of my neighbors are broadcasting.

Wonder why my laptop doesn't show up in the DHCP table listing? That aint right. Laptop has an IP of 192.168.1.3, DHCP on the router is supposed to hand out IPs in the 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.106 range. How did laptop get it's IP addy? Cornfused. or just dumb.

Neverwinter Nights: Original NWN (English) Patch - Mac. Damn it! Trying to get around buying Neverwinter Nights for the Mac because I already bought it for the PC. Thought it would be easy, it ain't. I had to compile and install unshield to bypass install-shield copy protection, no luck, still need to decrypt bzf or something, nephew found a biozip thing I can't compile in OS X. So, I'm using my virtual pc to install NWN and copy over all the files to my Mac. Seems to work up until I start a game, then it goes to blue screen then nothing. I'm just venting not looking for advise advice yet, I might be able to figure this out...

update: not trying to make it work today.

update: Somehow got NWN to work, kinda. Playing through the single player mission, building up my character. The screen has gone totally black once, could still hear the game, this may be a buggy way to play. Screw you MacSoft, I mean, thanks for the playable demo that makes this possible MacSoft.

Do pugs ever stop shedding? Sheesh, hair everywhere. Staying at my folks place for who knows how long and they've got a couple of pugs. I would think that in the cold weather they'd keep as much hair as possible. Maybe when it gets colder.

Dummy at work told me that today. He voted, but didn't vote for president, just local elections. All because of the electoral college system we have, his lame state of Idaho only has 4. He claims that he hates the electoral college system and would rather that the popular vote would prevail. Hey dummy, you didn't vote for president, so yours didn't count period. Obama won the popular vote as well.

The movie still sucks, but it looks a lot better in Blu-Ray. I will say that you can sort of tell the bad guys from the good guys in the higher def version. Viewing the DVD version I couldn't really follow the action, or tell which robot was which. To be honest I was catching up on email and stuff during the heavy CGI scenes. Just wanted to see what's her name in a belly shirt and short skirt in high def.

I've seen that people take credit for my work. Not difficult work, took me 15 minutes or less to do it, squeezed it out before I left on Friday. Emailed the result of my work to the coworker that requested it. Subsequently read an email where that coworker claimed that they created it, they may have edited it, but don't take full credit. Just gives me more reason to hate on folk. This particular coworker couldn't have created it ever. Best to move on if able. Will be with some folk this weekend that might have some options.

I just bought a new glass screen and tools to replace it off eBay. Shit is coming from Hong Kong. Why do they call it 2G? That 2G stuff confuses me. Anyway, even if it's the wrong size it was only around 14 bucks. Isn't the 3G iPhone the second generation? They claim it fits a 4 gig iPhone, so that would be a first generation iPhone.

A local company can replace the busted glass screen on my iPhone for "... $65 (parts), $10.88 Shipping, and $35 labor...", so hmm, math, let's see 110.88. Cheaper than sending it back to Apple. Too bad I don't have some other phone lying around I could put the sim card into during the repair time. They say 5-10 days turnaround. Would they need to have my iPhone the whole time? Need to find out what it would cost to get out of my ATT contract. Then go T-Mobile and G1, depending on what it costs to dump ATT. Although, I'm liking an App on the iPhone called GasHog that helps you track how many miles per gallon you get, and what the fuel costs per mile.

That G1 looks goofy, has no standard headphone jack, doesn't play video, not truly open thanks to T-Mobile, has a 2 year contract like ATT.

Fuck it, I'm stuck. Maybe I'll get the 3G iPhone instead and sell the busted one to help offset the cost. I'll have to make sure to take blurry pictures of it.

It was very easy to setup the first 3 times. Why 3 times? Well, I'm trying to use Boxee on it and that requires some work, not really, but I tried it over again when samba wasn't working. Still need some work to get samba shares to load. All the iTunes stuff works great, I can stream any media in my iTunes library fine, movies I've bought, podcasts, music I've bought. What I really want is samba shares to work. That will involve some ssh and ftp work. NitoTV may be the answer. Not a novice to ssh or ftp so I'm not scared about it, just too late in the day to tackle it tonight.

BTW: Never knew I could boot from a USB card reader.
