It is awesome! And it was pretty cheap. It's a Philips DVP642, got it off Amazon. Does component video, progressive scan, plays Divx, and can be region unlocked. Bought it because it does progressive scan and component so I can use it with my dying projector, gives a much better image than my Playstation 2 with a component cable, and it's quieter than the PS2.

Turns out not so awesome, takes a long time for it recognize the disc, often it'll spend 2 minutes analyzing (sp?) and say "no disc". But when it does see the DVD the picture is grand.

Damn it, this DVD player doesn't work. I reckon the laser is out of alignment or something like that. I'll be calling support soon.

Burned a bitorrented version of "Thresold" to cd and it plays fine. Why won't it play the DVDs I own...maybe this device wants me to be a pirate....

Tried to make a warranty claim online, said I was out of warranty. Wrong, just got it, making a further claim via email. Bastards, no wonder my wrist hurts so bad.

I'm pre-approved for up to $20,000 for a car loan at my credit union, not happy with the interest rate above 7 percent. I was thinking about looking for a car, so I looked for financing first, but that interest rate blows, gotta think about it. That pre-approved rate is good for 30 days, no rush. What I really want is a Mini Cooper, or some other small car, VW Golf, Toyota Matrix, Scion Xb, or a hybrid...or a diesel to convert to biodiesel...

Might be able to get a 2005 VW GTI at a good interest rate ... find out tomorrow, I doubt it, think the dealership is setting me up to get screwed. Better break my fingers tonight so I can't sign anything when I meet the salesman.

Watching this almost interesting show about an alien invasion. Really cool thing is that the main character has a french bulldog as a pet, she calls it "Monster". Cute. Dog doesn't get much face time on the show, but damn those frenchies are cute! She had it wear a harness instead of a collar when she walked it, she's kind. So maybe she'll be kind to the invading aliens...CBS.COM.

Sweet! Free World Dialup and Broadvoice users can call each other. From FWD to BV dial **282 Area Code + Number (works). From BV to FWD dial 011 0 393 FWD number (don't know if it works, all phone batteries dead). Here's a link to a Voxilla forum post about doing this kind of "peering" stuff.

update: the BV to FWD thing doesn't work, however, if you have the ability to add a custom dialstring to your VOIP device you can make it work, maybe. I'm still experimenting. I need to memorize my FWD number, so I'm going to type it here a few times, 699064, 699064, 699064, 699064. Ah ha! If I use STUN settings BV to FWD works fantastic. Maybe it should be "Why did FSM (Flying Spaghetti Monster) create clean and unclean meatballs?". My punctuation knowledge is crap. Do I need a period after a quotation? Bahhh, praise pasta.

I really have to mention that the pig on the plate graphic on their site is messed up. Why does the plate cast a shadow and the pig doesn't? Is it because pigs are "unclean" and therefore don't cast shadows? Where are the pigs hind legs? There's no way that pig can stand totally on that plate. Is the pig balancing on it's front hooves? Turns out my huge electricity bill last month must've been a mistake. Didn't ever challenge it, nice folks there at Avista. I paid it like a good boy, now I have credit due me. Leaving all my lights on, fridge door open, hot water running, until the credit is gone.

This is the traditional Jerry Lewis MDA telethon weekend. He's gotta be pissed off because of Katrina's aftermath. Larry King is doing a mini-telethon on CNN to benefit the victims of Katrina called "How You Can Help". Well maybe he's not pissed because the telethon doesn't show up on TV I can see until 9am Monday. At any rate, I'd like to think that Jerry is upset that a hurricane is stealing some of his thunder.

I've got to pick exterior colors for my house. Think I'll go with historically traditional ones for a Craftsman style bungalow. Didn't find much searching until I found this Flickr photo set. Some kind of green for the body is what I'm leaning towards. The neighbors on the left have a yellowish house and the guy on the right has a white one. I've got some time to decide because it's way too cold right now to paint.

Did a walkthru of my burned house today. Everything has been stripped down to bare floors and studs. That pic is where the fire almost burned through the living room floor. Keep in mind that there was carpet and another wood floor that the flames ate up before creating those almost holes.

That's what I thought when watching "The Office" earlier tonight. Turns out that hump wasn't the one from Cheaters. It was Kenneth Cole, who happens to look a lot like the hump from Cheaters. Kenneth Cole designs shoes and other stuff that they sell at Macy's. I don't think he confronts people who are cheating on their spouses. Maybe he confronts people who wear counterfeit shoes.

My latest electric bill showed up in my inbox today. It wasn't as good as my Qwest bill where they owe me, pretty good though. Only 21 bucks, compared to the last one before the fire which was over 100 bucks more than that. Almost hate to move back after all the repairs are done, really enjoy these cheap utilities.

It's been almost 30 days since I last slept in my own bed. Don't think I'd want to sleep in it now, probably in a landfill. Thankfully those two aren't allowed in my guest room, or else there'd be hair all over my new MacBook Pro. Should only be three more months of their crap to put up with, "... feed me, pet me, play with me ..."

And, I should find out next week for sure how the whole "contents" thing will work with my homeowner's insurance. Hope that ambulance ride will be covered by my health insurance, picked up my mail Friday and there was a notice claiming that they think some other insurance might cover it because it was the result of an accident. Had to fill out a form, now I get to wait and see.

Got a new bill from Qwest in my email today. They actually owe me 26 bucks. Not everything sucks when your house almost burns down. I guess they owe me because they bill in advance. I got lucky when they agreed to let me out of the two year commitment, but c'mon, I'm not in the house, how can I use their DSL on melted phone lines? DirecTV let me put the service on hold for six months and will give me a free move-in thing, or something. Awesome!

Do pugs ever stop shedding? Sheesh, hair everywhere. Staying at my folks place for who knows how long and they've got a couple of pugs. I would think that in the cold weather they'd keep as much hair as possible. Maybe when it gets colder.

iPhone glass replacement kit showed up today. The glass in the kit was broken. Shoot.

Dummy at work told me that today. He voted, but didn't vote for president, just local elections. All because of the electoral college system we have, his lame state of Idaho only has 4. He claims that he hates the electoral college system and would rather that the popular vote would prevail. Hey dummy, you didn't vote for president, so yours didn't count period. Obama won the popular vote as well.

The movie still sucks, but it looks a lot better in Blu-Ray. I will say that you can sort of tell the bad guys from the good guys in the higher def version. Viewing the DVD version I couldn't really follow the action, or tell which robot was which. To be honest I was catching up on email and stuff during the heavy CGI scenes. Just wanted to see what's her name in a belly shirt and short skirt in high def.
