My DVD player quit working...boo hoo

I turned on my DVD player tonight to watch "Brother Bear" and all I got was a code on the display, it said H07. I thought maybe it was trying to talk leet to me and was saying it was hot, so I turned it off, took my DirecTV box off the top of it, put a frozen water bottle on top to cool it off. Turns out this H07 is an error code meaning buy a new DVD player because this one is dead. Specifically the spindle motor is dead. Darn.

The problem is bigger than just a dvd player, I can use my PS2 or iBook to watch a DVD. The problem is my projector that is almost in need of replacement. Not sure what to do here. Can't really afford to buy anything, so I guess I'll start selling. I better sleep on this whole thing.

FCC should stand for Fucking Cunty Cunts

Gonna copy and paste a message from my VoIP provider regarding 911 service.

paste---

Dear BroadVoice Subscriber,

We are sending you this notice to advise you of the recent Federal
Communications Commission (FCC) Order regarding Voice over Internet Protocol
(VoIP) enhanced 911 (E911) services and its implications on your BroadVoice
Internet phone service.

Please review the content of this email in its entirety and, when you have
finished, click on the link below to let us know you have read and understood
it. This is a requirement by the FCC of all VoIP service providers and, without
your acknowledgement, we will no longer be able to offer you BroadVoice
Internet phone service.

E911 will soon be a required element of your service plan, but BroadVoice does
not at this time provide E911 service. Until such time as BroadVoice offers E911
and sends you explicit instructions stating how to register for it, you cannot
use BroadVoice service to call for emergency assistance by dialing 911. We shall
be sending you a label to affix to your equipment stating this. Also, please
note that 911 service applies only to the United States 911 system.

So that we may continue to offer you BroadVoice Internet phone service, please
click on one of the following choices. Failure to do so will result in an
interruption of your BroadVoice phone service.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

---end paste

Duh, what freaking idiot who gets VoIP thinks 911 will work? I don't even want this new E911, it's stupid, my VoIP device will work worldwide, will the ambulance do a traceroute to find the real world address of the originating IP address, or come to the real world address I have on file with the VoIP provider? If that's the case then when I'm in Tokoyo and get raped in my hotel (here's hoping) and call 911 on my VoIP phone, where do the cops show up? Well, at the very least I get a sticker to affix on my equipment. Reckon that's the best possible solution, hand out stickers to put on VoIP phones stating 911 no worky.

And Jesus made wine from fishes, he also made this WEEK in TECH #15

Or is it bread from water? Screw Jesus, I have a new Twit to listen to! TWIT the miracle that comes almost every week. Darn, I wanted to add direct download links to the various torrents, the TWIT servers crapped out. Here's one of the direct links. AOL will have direct downloads later I'm sure.

Washington's Lottery Winner is Me

I won teh mega millons! 9 bucks of it, only cost me 10 bucks to win 9. Think it was my best lottery result so far. I only play when the big win is over 100 million, usually.

Odeo = neato

Hey ya'll, iffin you like podcastin, and listenin to podcasts, check out Odeo. It's a service that's meant to help you find, sample and manage Podcasts. Damn my laptop is hot, too hot. Posting this and shutting down. Ok, I let the iBook cool down. Another thing about Odeo is that you can make your own podcast with their software. I don't want to make a podcast, and I don't want to use their software. Super cool thing is that I can use the website and still use iTunes to listen to podcasts I subscribe to, even if I subscribe to them using Odeo.

from the shadows -- 4th one

Gosh, turning red traffic lights green, scary tech. I must say I witnessed a cop use this tech just the other day, might not be the same tech, but a cop somehow turned the traffic lights in his favor when he was behind me. From the Shadows-4. No clue why it's called "From the Shadows", or why they call their episodes boxes. Also must request more big version bittorrent users, sheesh, it'll take me 3+ days to get it. Damn it, I can't watch it as a 1 inch by 2 inch stream...

Might get the FTS thing now, maybe it's a CHUD idear, coming out from the shadows of the underground into the light of day to eat the flesh of humans, take away the eating the flesh of humans, or not, Yoshi is a big guy with a family to feed, humans might need to be on the lookout for green dinosaurs with long sticky tongues.

VOIP not so great

I've been using Broadvoice for a few months as my only phone service. Overall I'd have to say it kinda sucks. I'm sure part of it is because I'm on the "Bring Your Own Device" plan and it's up to me to configure my Sipura device for the best performance. Lately I've been having a lot of echo on my end of the conversation, very annoying. Even more annoying to anybody you're talking to is that it'll cut off randomly. You might be in mid-sentence and end up talking to dead air, or a fast busy signal. I can't argue with the price, but the service is so-so. Price wise it works out to around 8 bucks for a "phone", for a real Qwest phone it's at least 20 bucks a month. For a 12 buck saving, I can live with the annoyance. Some people might not call me again, but c'mon, I'm saving 12 bucks a month!

Oh, and people who talk to me regularly have my cell number, so call that instead.

There is no law that demands you have a phone in your home. Most people do, but it's not required.

Ahh thank you Apple. The recent update to Airport software is super cool, getting seemingly 100% on my wireless connection. I used to get only around 75%.

Do you know a cheater?

Watched "Million Dollar Baby" tonight and it got me all worked up about welfare fraud. Before she got crippled, the boxer bought a house for her mother. The mother didn't like it because it would interfere with her welfare payments. Fuck you, get a fucking job. Somebody gives you a house and you say, "No thanks, that'll mess up my welfare". Arrrghh. I hate the idea that some people have kids to get welfare money. If you can spread your legs to get a kid for welfare money, spread them for porn. If you go the porn way instead, you aren't going to damage a child. Please report welfare cheats in Washington State here.

Crash!

Was witness to a Jetta vs. street lamp fight today. Street lamp won. Heartless guy that I am, just drove away. It's shocking to see an accident right in front of you. I was stopped at a stop light, heard a screech, then saw a Volkswagen Jetta smash head on into the pole that holds up a street lamp. Dummy must've been going at least 40 mph. The street light kinda swayed for a couple of minutes from the impact. I sat and watched in awe as the driver tried to open his door from the outsite because it wouldn't open from the inside anymore. Thankfully there were other witnesses who ran up to check on the occupants so I didn't have to try to help the bad driver. Hope he's ok...not really, idiot.

Not to say that I would've done nothing if there hadn't been others already rushing into the scene. Even idiots should be helped when they crash into stationary objects.

What is going on on Sprague Ave?

Was driving home and noticed two TV SUVs set up to broadcast. I don't watch the local news, so wonder if a hooker got killed or something... I like to drive by where hookers walk and try to guess which of the ladies on the street are hookers. Saw a very pregnant lady on the corner couple of days ago, she was wearing a halter top and short shorts. If she was a hooker, feel sorry for that kid in her belly. Should mention I never find out if any of the ladies are hookers, never pull over and ask for a "date".

Wheww!

Glad to report that my pops had a successful medical procedure today, he didn't die. And the neph didn't die when he had his wisdom teefers taken out. I can feel a bit less anxious now. Weird that I call my dad "pops" when I'm writing, usually call him "Daddy" if I'm talking to him or about him. Well, can't say that I've called him "Daddy" lately, to his face. Reckon it's when I'm talking about him that I use "Daddy" to refer to him, or more likely "Grandpa", if discussing him with my neph or nieces. Names are goofy.

Ahh crap

My pops is having a medical procedure tomorrow and I didn't talk to him. I hope he doesn't die during it. It's supposed to be fairly safe...but don't die old codger. Don't even know what a codger is, you never hear about a young one, do you? I'm crying already, and he didn't even have the procedure yet...better not die old man...or I'll be sad...can't do much other than that. Oh and the neph is getting his wisdom teeth taken care of tomorrow too. I'm all anxious. Nobody in my family can die in the next 7 days.

Abusing animals is fun!

Heard about these jumping cat pictures somewhere. I think there might be some abuse of cats going on here. Or at least some teasing of cats. Enticing cats to jump is wrong, just like you shouldn't play with dogs, or kids, they should all evolve and grow on their own without adult / human intervention. Talking out my ass, jump you crazy cats! I love it!

I am so very kinda not really pissed off. Took out my garbage for pickup tomorrow, was shocked to discover garbage already in my plastic garbage thingy. Want to say garbage can, but it's not a can, how about recepticle. Anyway, one of my neighbors put their trash in my recepticle! How rude.

A very fine example of an actor going the extra mile

Check out "The Machinist" starring Christian Bale, that dude got Nazi prison camp skinny for that role. Not sure how I feel about the movie. In the film, Christian Bale's character pays Jennifer Jason Leigh's character for sex. I don't think I'd pay to have sex with Jennifer Jason Leigh, she's kinda old, but like me she doesn't look old. Maybe I would pay...

Erasure on Logo

My new favorite faggot channel Logo is featuring one of the bands I was most into during High School, Erasure. Looks like the singer (Andy Bell) has had some plastic surgery, or maybe it's just how he's shaped his eyebrows. Vince Clarke looks pretty much like he always had, even in the Depeche Mode days. Ah, such great bands, Depeche Mode, Erasure and Yaz.

Think some kinda bug bit my foot

ugly foot
Can't really see it in this bad photo. But there's a bruise (pointed at) with a little red spot in the middle. Think the camera focused on the arm of the couch and not my foot when I snapped the pic. (photo is cropped to save the viewer from seeing my nasty unkempt toehair and toenails)

Gosh I've got some ugly skin, all blotchy, mini-breakouts, blue veins, and that's just my footsies, imagine how out of control it is all over...could post pics of my head and the bald spots that are growing. Is the Amazon endangered? kinda, how about the forest on my head! Hair Club for Men might have me for a client soon. Or not, I'll live with what I have. Might end up with blue pulsating veins across my forehead. Oh well.

Queer Channel

Found a new channel on my DirecTV. Logo is how it shows up in your channel guide. Appears to be for the gays, but I'll be watching if they have good shows. As I'm typing the fag channel is showing a 'Scissor Sisters' video, and I'm all for that.

Now it's a Margaret Cho comedy concert, super funny lady. Not a gay myself, but I'm liking the Logo channel a lot.

Is that how you spell 'channel'? looks wrong to me...somehow french and not right.

Hate you asshats at Vh1

WTF??? Was enjoying the Live 8 show. The fully formed Pink Floyd was on stage playing "Comfortably Numb", and near the end of the song asshat VJs broke in to go to commerical, and reminded me where I could go to buy what I was just watching!!!! I am so anti charity on TV. Guess it's not a pay thing to see it again, but c'mon, show the entire performance please.

Is Vh1, or Viacom giving all the commercial revenue to the Live 8 foundation?

Oh, and Madonna showed that she still can't sing.

AOL's support is nice, but what would be really nice is if you could select an artist, not have to watch the whole stream.

So much dog hair

Do pugs ever stop shedding? Sheesh, hair everywhere. Staying at my folks place for who knows how long and they've got a couple of pugs. I would think that in the cold weather they'd keep as much hair as possible. Maybe when it gets colder.

"My Vote Doesn't Count"

Dummy at work told me that today. He voted, but didn't vote for president, just local elections. All because of the electoral college system we have, his lame state of Idaho only has 4. He claims that he hates the electoral college system and would rather that the popular vote would prevail. Hey dummy, you didn't vote for president, so yours didn't count period. Obama won the popular vote as well.

Transformers Blu-Ray

The movie still sucks, but it looks a lot better in Blu-Ray. I will say that you can sort of tell the bad guys from the good guys in the higher def version. Viewing the DVD version I couldn't really follow the action, or tell which robot was which. To be honest I was catching up on email and stuff during the heavy CGI scenes. Just wanted to see what's her name in a belly shirt and short skirt in high def.

I like hating coworkers

I've seen that people take credit for my work. Not difficult work, took me 15 minutes or less to do it, squeezed it out before I left on Friday. Emailed the result of my work to the coworker that requested it. Subsequently read an email where that coworker claimed that they created it, they may have edited it, but don't take full credit. Just gives me more reason to hate on folk. This particular coworker couldn't have created it ever. Best to move on if able. Will be with some folk this weekend that might have some options.

Kristen Wiig of SNL had a nose job

It's obvious. Why even debate it? If you look at Kristen Wiig's nose in "Walk Hard" and how it looks on the most recent episodes of SNL, it's clear that she had a nose job. I personally think she looks better.

Ok, might do some work on the broke dick iPhone

I just bought a new glass screen and tools to replace it off eBay. Shit is coming from Hong Kong. Why do they call it 2G? That 2G stuff confuses me. Anyway, even if it's the wrong size it was only around 14 bucks. Isn't the 3G iPhone the second generation? They claim it fits a 4 gig iPhone, so that would be a first generation iPhone.

iPhone glass replacement. Worth it?

A local company can replace the busted glass screen on my iPhone for "... $65 (parts), $10.88 Shipping, and $35 labor...", so hmm, math, let's see 110.88. Cheaper than sending it back to Apple. Too bad I don't have some other phone lying around I could put the sim card into during the repair time. They say 5-10 days turnaround. Would they need to have my iPhone the whole time? Need to find out what it would cost to get out of my ATT contract. Then go T-Mobile and G1, depending on what it costs to dump ATT. Although, I'm liking an App on the iPhone called GasHog that helps you track how many miles per gallon you get, and what the fuel costs per mile.

That G1 looks goofy, has no standard headphone jack, doesn't play video, not truly open thanks to T-Mobile, has a 2 year contract like ATT.

Fuck it, I'm stuck. Maybe I'll get the 3G iPhone instead and sell the busted one to help offset the cost. I'll have to make sure to take blurry pictures of it.

Got my used / refurbished Apple TV

It was very easy to setup the first 3 times. Why 3 times? Well, I'm trying to use Boxee on it and that requires some work, not really, but I tried it over again when samba wasn't working. Still need some work to get samba shares to load. All the iTunes stuff works great, I can stream any media in my iTunes library fine, movies I've bought, podcasts, music I've bought. What I really want is samba shares to work. That will involve some ssh and ftp work. NitoTV may be the answer. Not a novice to ssh or ftp so I'm not scared about it, just too late in the day to tackle it tonight.

BTW: Never knew I could boot from a USB card reader.

BTW 2: The 2.2 Apple TV update included 1080p.
