Candles that need batteries

I kinda want to buy some of these candles. Everythings better with electricity, except chairs, not a fan of electric chairs, more of a life without parole kinda guy.

See kids, typing can be fun!

Nice, those crazy brits have updated the classic text-based 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy' game. It's been so long since I read the books, or watched the TV show, (never listened to the radio show) I'm sure to get stuck pretty quick. Wonder if the Zork adventures are out there somewhere on the interweb...or that Leather Goddess of Phobos thing...ahh the good old days, when games were on 5 & 1/4" floppy disks.

ewww, me likey these shelves

Somehow I ended up clicking a link to this shelving system. Wonder how much they cost? They would certainly be a lot better than my current cinder block and plywood tv stand set-up.

damn, camera phones suck so hard

jeebus cripes, nevermind, freaking expensive! Cinder blocks aren't so bad.

Gonna give Comcast internet a try

Just signed up for 6 months of Comcast cable internet for 19.99 a month. I don't think this deal is directly through Comcast. As a non-cable tv customer the price is around 10 bucks more per month, that better be after the first 6 months! The price doesn't include a cable modem, since I prefer to own rather than lease, just ordered a D-Link DCM 202 from ZipZoomFly. The modem has a 30 buck mail in rebate, and free 2-day delivery, bringing it to only $30.50 (after rebate). Gotta have the modem before I schedule the cable install.

Here's hoping my cable internet will be reliable, if it is, goodbye Qwest land-line.

Need this, or something like it

My HD MythTV setup will need one of these VGA to Component converters. DAMN IT! I just know my lcd projector isn't going to be good enough. Why can't I find a cheap hobby? Reckon it's a good thing I got my whopping $136.00 tax refund yesterday.

Interesting, if you use Windows

Hmm, I wonder if I could do this using Virtual PC...Probably won't work on my virtual version of Windows ME.

Burning through Napster's collection, free. Sucky part is you have to listen to the full track.

Beware the "Broadcast Flag"

Why did I think it was the Hauppauge PVR 250 and PVR 350 cards that were going to become illegal? They don't do hi-def. It's cards like the pcHDTV HD-3000 that become illegal to buy starting July 2005. Hauppauge does make a couple of hi-def cards, the oddly named WinTV-HD and WinTV-D. I just ordered the linux only pcHDTV HD-3000, it's on backorder until Feb 20. Gives me plenty of time to finish downloading KnoppMyth and reading this tract from the EFF.

Sadly, my mini-itx mobo may not be beefy enough to be a Myth TV box. The HDTV card wants a 1200 Mhz P4 as a minimum, the mini runs on a 1000 Mhz VIA chip. I'll give it shot once I get the card. At the very least I'm sure the mini would do great as a Myth TV front end.

timesaver

This hint from Mac OSX hints dot com is a great timesaver. By using it my LinkStation will mount automatically when I wake up my iBook. Hopefully this will prevent iTunes from forgetting where my music folder is located, I'm tired of consolidating my library when I discover iTunes has decided to store my mp3s locally. My laptop drive is tiny, so cut it out iTunes, use the big LinkStation like I've told you to many times already.

Instant classic

My new favorite zombie movie. Shaun of the Dead is great. It's only been on DVD for a few months, became available the same day as Napoleon Dynamite, which I finally saw yesterday.

Can't really call it my favorite. The Evil Dead is my favorite zombie movie. Does Re-Animator count as a zombie movie? And what about Passion of the Christ? I guess Passion wouldn't count because the movie ends before Jesus turns into a zombie. Passion of the Christ is the bloodiest, boringest pre-zombie movie.

Thank you Channel 101! I'm viewing Laser Fart #1 right now, the first two minutes are hilarious.

Can it get any better? Yes!

BitPim on OSX

Had some trouble trying to use BitPim with my LG VX6100. I don't know if this is a Mac issue or what, I had to change the communication setting on the phone from USB to RS232, even though I'm using a USB cable...alls I knows is that the program worked after I changed that setting.

So much dog hair

Do pugs ever stop shedding? Sheesh, hair everywhere. Staying at my folks place for who knows how long and they've got a couple of pugs. I would think that in the cold weather they'd keep as much hair as possible. Maybe when it gets colder.

"My Vote Doesn't Count"

Dummy at work told me that today. He voted, but didn't vote for president, just local elections. All because of the electoral college system we have, his lame state of Idaho only has 4. He claims that he hates the electoral college system and would rather that the popular vote would prevail. Hey dummy, you didn't vote for president, so yours didn't count period. Obama won the popular vote as well.

Transformers Blu-Ray

The movie still sucks, but it looks a lot better in Blu-Ray. I will say that you can sort of tell the bad guys from the good guys in the higher def version. Viewing the DVD version I couldn't really follow the action, or tell which robot was which. To be honest I was catching up on email and stuff during the heavy CGI scenes. Just wanted to see what's her name in a belly shirt and short skirt in high def.

I like hating coworkers

I've seen that people take credit for my work. Not difficult work, took me 15 minutes or less to do it, squeezed it out before I left on Friday. Emailed the result of my work to the coworker that requested it. Subsequently read an email where that coworker claimed that they created it, they may have edited it, but don't take full credit. Just gives me more reason to hate on folk. This particular coworker couldn't have created it ever. Best to move on if able. Will be with some folk this weekend that might have some options.

Kristen Wiig of SNL had a nose job

It's obvious. Why even debate it? If you look at Kristen Wiig's nose in "Walk Hard" and how it looks on the most recent episodes of SNL, it's clear that she had a nose job. I personally think she looks better.

AHHH, Sick of these political ads

WTF does "opposed defending marriage" mean? Does that mean he or she thinks homos should be able to get married? Fucking christians need to learn that America isn't a theocracy yet. Are there any non-religious congresspersons or senators?

Ok, might do some work on the broke dick iPhone

I just bought a new glass screen and tools to replace it off eBay. Shit is coming from Hong Kong. Why do they call it 2G? That 2G stuff confuses me. Anyway, even if it's the wrong size it was only around 14 bucks. Isn't the 3G iPhone the second generation? They claim it fits a 4 gig iPhone, so that would be a first generation iPhone.

iPhone glass replacement. Worth it?

A local company can replace the busted glass screen on my iPhone for "... $65 (parts), $10.88 Shipping, and $35 labor...", so hmm, math, let's see 110.88. Cheaper than sending it back to Apple. Too bad I don't have some other phone lying around I could put the sim card into during the repair time. They say 5-10 days turnaround. Would they need to have my iPhone the whole time? Need to find out what it would cost to get out of my ATT contract. Then go T-Mobile and G1, depending on what it costs to dump ATT. Although, I'm liking an App on the iPhone called GasHog that helps you track how many miles per gallon you get, and what the fuel costs per mile.

That G1 looks goofy, has no standard headphone jack, doesn't play video, not truly open thanks to T-Mobile, has a 2 year contract like ATT.

Fuck it, I'm stuck. Maybe I'll get the 3G iPhone instead and sell the busted one to help offset the cost. I'll have to make sure to take blurry pictures of it.

Got my used / refurbished Apple TV

It was very easy to setup the first 3 times. Why 3 times? Well, I'm trying to use Boxee on it and that requires some work, not really, but I tried it over again when samba wasn't working. Still need some work to get samba shares to load. All the iTunes stuff works great, I can stream any media in my iTunes library fine, movies I've bought, podcasts, music I've bought. What I really want is samba shares to work. That will involve some ssh and ftp work. NitoTV may be the answer. Not a novice to ssh or ftp so I'm not scared about it, just too late in the day to tackle it tonight.

BTW: Never knew I could boot from a USB card reader.

BTW 2: The 2.2 Apple TV update included 1080p.
