man, did i ever screw up
Wiped out all my blog templates on accident. Think I got 'em mostly back to where they were. Put pics of some of my paintings and sketches here, or see paintings, etc. under "links". I should do back-ups.

Game Show Network
I love it when an old celebrity dies. The Game Show Network will dig up all the old programs the newly deceased appeared on. Today GSN is showing everything they've got with Johnny Carson. They did the same thing when Bob Hope passed away.

oh jeez, may have a new obsession...
Just stumbled upon the css zen garden. Thanks alot slashdot! Now I'm probably going to spend the whole weekend messing around with css on my stupid super site that doesn't get any many visitors.
There's some purty css in that garden.
update: if I got a nickel for every time I hit refresh...I'd have a bunch of nickels to be sure

w3schools.com
Gonna learn me some Cascading Style Sheets over at the w3school. Why is a non profit using a ".com" domain? Or does the website have nothing to do with The World Wide Web Consortium? I don't care, time to learn.

Slimserver on Linkstation
The processor in the Linkstation is slooooowww. Takes forever to rescan the music directory, right now I've only got around 12 gigs of mp3s on it, hate to think how long a rescan will take once the 120 gig capacity of the drive is reached. I had ripped all of my cds as aac, but Slimserver doesn't support that format natively. Luckily I didn't need to re-rip, I made iTunes convert them to mp3 overnight. Here's a link to the yahoo group where I found the instructions to hack the Linkstation. A neat project if you happen to have a Linkstation.

Pain in the ass

Damn damn damn, sometimes you need Windows. I need it now to flash the firmware on my Linkstation. Hopefully Virtual PC, my old copy of ME, and a boot image of a floppy I found online will be enough for what I'm trying to do. All of this effort so I can telnet into a god damn network attached storage device. Need a nap.
update: Success! I now have telnet access to my Linkstation. Next step is to install Slimserver on it.
update: After much consternation I was able to use vi to change the root password on the Linkstation. People who write how-to's should try to follow their own instructions, sheesh! BTW, if you CHMOD your passwd file to 666, good idea to CHMOD it back to read only, the how-to didn't mention that. Or at the very least delete the script that changes the passwd file to writeable.

digg.com
Neat site with user submitted/rated news and deals. Filing my taxes for free thanks to this post. And here's a post about hi-jacking the boot process of a PS2 without buying HD Loader or HD Advance. And my favorite one so far, 10% off the Mac mini from Target.com, deal expires 1/31/05.

Getting me a helicopter

Guy at work had one of these yesterday. He busted it within 5 minutes of taking it out of the box. Should've read the instructions, if you have the battery plugged in on the helicopter, don't turn off the remote control, because if you do, the copter will go nuts and end up smashed to bits.
He's ordering two more off eBay and I'm going to pay him for one of 'em. I've always wanted a helicopter. This is a dream come true.

How to open a Mac mini
A generous soul has posted a video demonstrating how to open up the new Mac mini. Save some money by upgrading the ram and hard drive yourself. Linkage to site that has a link to the video. Now where did I put my putty knife?

What a talented guy

I have a feeling this man has something in common with a certain NFL kicker. See more pics of this award winner at The Rubber Boy . com. Buy the lunchbox, I bet he can fit inside it!

Need a new digital camera
Dropped my discontinued EPSON PhotoPC 750z camera, it's busted. Young folk might not even know that EPSON made digital cameras. They don't anymore, probably for good reason. So, thinking I want to get the Canon PowerShot S70. It's a bit more than I'd like to spend, but it's black and I like that about it. The camera received a favorable review from Digital Photography Review, those guys test the heck out of stuff!

New Apple goodies
Yes! Finally a sub (barely) 500 dollar Mac. I can't wait to see one of the new mini's in person. The thing's not really much more powerful than my iBook, in fact I reckon it is an iBook in a box, pretty much. I read on Slashdot that the dimensions of the mini are almost the same as the standard opening for a car stereo...hmm an in dash mini...I'd need a better car, maybe a Mini Cooper...
Probably won't be buying either mini. But will absolutely be buying (maybe) the iPod shuttle for under (barely) 100 dollars. That should be shuffle, duh.

Pistachios...too many!
Here's a tip for those who want to sit on the toilet every couple of hours. Eat a whole bunch of pistachio nuts and wait for the magic to begin. I recommend it, great way to spend an evening.

Just like Reeses Peanut Butter Cups!
Heard a heartworming story on Paul Harvey this morning. Using puppies to smuggle heroin.
Everybody loves puppies! Everybody loves heroin! Sounds like another match made in heaven. "Hey, you got your heroin in my puppy!", "Your puppy agreed to be my mule!" Two great tastes, that taste great together.

First impressions of Wacom Intuos3
Disappointed The Gimp in OS X doesn't seem to support the pressure sensitivity of the tablet. It came with Photoshop Elements 2, Corel Painter Essentials 2 (that's the program used to create the masterful sketch featured above), and some other program I didn't install. Why Elements 2? Why not Elements 3?
It's a shame SuprNova.org doesn't offer torrents anymore, should've grabbed Photoshop CS when I had a chance, then purchased it after I evaluated it. Think I prefer Painter anyway for drawing. Gimp 2.2 is very sluggish and almost unusable with the tablet.
Need to try it out in World of Warcraft, but so far ... I like it!
